Loewe Yago

loewe_yago-yellowThough I hate to say this now, the Yago didn’t exactly leave a memorable impression the first time I set my eyes on it. In the store where it stood alongside more exciting siblings like the Anton (that backpack is love) and the Flamenco Knot (I call it my supple bundle of joy), the Loewe Yago is as plain as it gets, a hybrid backpack/shoulder bag that, well, isn’t exactly much to shout about.

The fact that it’s rather affordable (SGD2090), super roomy (all 47.5 cm by 43 cm of it) and available in a whole lot of colours should have helped. It’s also simply designed, with the now famous thick leather knot finishing both ends of the long sling. Lined with fabric with a single interior pocket, it’s also an easy bag to wear, its shape and style so neutral it would work with most any wardrobe style you’re currently in.

But (yes, there’s a but) there was something about its ‘stiffness’ that didn’t appeal to me, lying on the shelves looking all frigid and hard. Then the magic happened. Over time I realised the more I used it, the softer the leather became, going from structurally-stiff to super-slouchy, and the more you hugged/fondled/rubbed it, the ‘richer’ the leather became, which in my opinion just adds to the appeal of the Yagoeven more.

Available at Loewe boutiques at both Marina Bay Sands and Ngee Ann City, the best thing about it is perhaps how it hugs your body when you’re carrying it, either over both your shoulders like a backpack or over one shoulder like the nonchalant cool sling bag that it is.
